Isolation duty, BSPP or NPT threaded ends, built to ASME B16.34.

A rising‑stem gate valve for isolation, with BSPP or NPT threaded ends, in 1/2" to 2" (DN15 to DN50). The body is Stainless steel A351 CF8 or CF8M cast, rated 200 PSI, designed and manufactured to ASME B16.34 with ends to ANSI thread and inspection and testing to API 598.

Fully open, the gate lifts clear of the bore and the valve presents almost no restriction and almost no pressure drop. That is what a gate valve is for. It is not a throttling valve: held part‑open, flow across the partly‑raised gate vibrates it and erodes both gate and seat, and the damage is permanent. To regulate flow, use a globe valve.

  • ⚠ Isolation only. Fully open or fully shut — never throttle a gate valve. A throttled gate eventually will not shut off at all.
  • ⚠ This is the only gate valve in the range limited to 150 °C. Every other variant reaches 425 °C. The reason is the body: a cast CF8/CF8M valve built to ASME B16.34 rather than a forged one to API 602. Do not specify this for steam or hot oil — use the 800 PSI SS316 or forged steel version.
  • 200 PSI against 800 for the other two threaded valves. A quarter of the pressure, and a different design standard. Check the duty before choosing on price.
  • The catalogue publishes one dimension table for this valve and the 800 PSI version. We quote it as printed and confirm dimensions on enquiry for the exact rating you are buying.
  • Where it does belong: light corrosive duty at ambient — dosing lines, drains, sample points, wash‑down water — where stainless is wanted but pressure and heat are modest.
  • Tested to 2.1 MPa shell and 1.6 MPa seal, with gas tightness at 0.6 MPa. Proof tests, not working pressures. The figures.

  • Graphite packing is what allows the temperature rating. A gate valve seats metal to metal and packs the stem with graphite — no PTFE in the pressure boundary, which is why this range goes far past a ball valve.

  • ⚠ Allow headroom above the height figure. This is a rising stem valve — the stem and handwheel travel up as it opens, and you need clearance above that plus room to turn the wheel.
  • Measure the gap in the run against L, and on a replacement measure the valve coming out rather than trusting a drawing.

Can I use it to control flow?

What temperature will it take?

Will it fit my pipework?

It is BSPP or NPT threaded, to ANSI thread. BSPP and NPT are not interchangeable — a mismatched pair engages, feels tight, then leaks later. If you are unsure which is on the existing pipework, send a photo before ordering.

What is it made of?

Why is it rated 200 PSI?

Because it is a cast CF8/CF8M body built to ASME B16.34, not a forged one to API 602. That makes it the lightest and cheapest stainless threaded gate valve here — and the reason it is also the only one limited to 150 °C. The 800 PSI version is forged.

Do I need extra height above the valve?

Yes. This is a rising stem valve — the stem and handwheel travel up as it opens. Allow clearance above the published height plus room to turn the wheel. It is the dimension most often forgotten when replacing a valve in a tight space.

Gate valve or ball valve?

Temperature and speed decide it. Gate valves in this range work to 425 °C because they seal metal‑to‑metal with graphite packing; the PTFE‑seated ball valves stop at 150 °C. But a ball valve is a quarter turn and a gate valve is many turns. For hot service, gate. For fast or frequent isolation, ball.
